Bear Lake is often referred to as the Caribbean of the Rocky
Mountains because of its clear aqua blue water and white, sandy
beaches. The lake lies along the Utah/Idaho border about 2 1/2 hours
north of Salt Lake City and about 3 hours south of Jackson Hole
Wyoming. US highway 89, the scenic route from Salt Lake City to
Yellowstone National Park, provides easy assess to the area. The
lake is 18 miles long, 7 miles across and over 200' deep with a
visibility of about 35'.

This Mormon pioneer log cabin may be one of the original Bear Lake Houses of Utah. Built possibly by the Hodges families that settled Bear Lake Utah near the original Oregon trail with Brigham Young in the late 1800's. Bear Lake Houses is about the special houses of Bear Lake.

This cabin was "found" underneath another old house structure when it was torn down in the 1990's. It's specifically in Garden City (Kennedyville), near Pickleville, Fishhaven, and the Laketown area of this Bear Lake Utah resort area. Some other Bear Lake houses of this area may have cabins hidden within their walls, but most have been damaged or unattainable,and many Bear Lake houses offer a wealth of historical heritage about Utah and the U.S. The Hodges family and so many others should be credited for their strength and determination for settling this area of Bear Lake, Rich County Utah.
